Thumbs up to a well-run organization!
I have not met THE Camel-Man of Australia, Chris Hill, but the smile, friendliness and energy of his "yellow team" - Ships of the Desert, has been the highlight of my short visit in Broome.
I felt very privileged to join their sunset tour. I rode a young female cow-camel wearing "blings" and named... Mathilda!
The presentation, humour and merchandising were excellent, but I was left speechless by the energy of the all team running back and forth with us during our sunset tour, making professional pictures, as well as using several times the camera of each participant.
The blue team... having less fun! |
The pictures were available immediately, printed on board the 4-wheel drive on the beach or burnt onto a CD with the solar-powered computer!
Beers and wine were offered and a fish and chips dinner option was available. Several of us stayed on the blankets and chairs on the beach, chatting happily until complete darkness, looking at the stars.
I cannot be thankful enough for the hospitality of the all team who then gave us a lift back while the camels were walking back to the farm to be groomed.
"V" for "Valerie"! |
Ships of the Desert do give the best hump on Cable Beach!

I did reach the ship just before to be turned into Cinderella's pumpkin at 10.30pm and was the last one on board. They started calling on my mobile phone at 10.20pm, checking if my belongings were still in my cabin and making announcement on board, which made me sadly famous for a few days.
